Kane has been my project dog for the past couple of years. He is currently training in PSA and has a PDC, but he does have an IGP foundation as well. He is an extremely emotional dog that can be loving and goofy, but he isn’t a social dog outside of his one or two people. He isn’t what I’d call an aggressive dog either though. He doesn’t go looking for a problem with people and can be very neutral as long as strangers are neutral. He just has opinions about what he likes, and what he doesn’t like, and does have the potential to bite if pushed. He can do activities like hiking, kayaking, etc, but he isn’t one I’d take to social gatherings.
He is a very pushy dog in the work that likes to test you and test the boundaries. So, you need a lot of patience when working him, and you need to think ahead to set things up for success. He isn’t a dog that can be handled emotionally because he will feed off of that. Kane has high toy drive, extremely high food drive, good possession, and high hunt drive. Though he lives life for himself mainly, but he can have great work ethic with the right handling and joy in his work. He is very engaging to play when rewarded. He can redirect a little if a correction isn’t clear or if he is already frustrated. He has good obedience and has been trained up to a PSA2 level obedience with all behaviors including expressive heeling, sit and down motion exercises, recall to heel (no front), change of positions, retrieve of any object thrown by the handler, obstacles including jump, a-frame, and tunnel, food refusal (though this is very hard for him still with his extreme food drive), with all these behaviors and more around active decoys.
In protection, he is a very man focused dog with high aggression, and does best when worked in aggression, not just prey. He works great under pressure in aggression, but if it gets more prey focused, he doesn’t take it as seriously, and that’s not where he looks his best. I can discuss this further as well.
He is a very clear headed dog without the hectic mindset, and he has a ton of common sense. He could potentially be a good house dog because of this. He is a kennel dog currently with me. He is a dog that needs fo work/exercise or he will get more and more pushy. He would need a home with limited access to people he doesn’t know or trust, and an owner that understands who he is.
Placements could include protection sports with the right handler, guardian/property protection, private security, detection, personal protection with the right situation, and even an active pet with a very particular owner. Over all, he really can be a super cool, one person dog for the right owner as he can develop a great bond with correct handling.
More information, photos, videos are available. He does have OFA hip/elbow prelims scoring Fair/Normal and a clear Embark panel. DOB: 10/25/2020. Approximately 75-80lbs. Located in Markham, Va.
